Omaha Poker Tips

To succeed when playing Omaha Poker, you must know the ins and outs of the game. Listed below is a series of Omaha Poker tips to help you get started.

Omaha Poker is not Texas Hold’em = While the games are very similar in structure, there are differences between Omaha Poker and Texas Hold’em. When playing Omaha Poker, you need to play according to the unique Omaha Poker mindset and strategy.

You don’t need to see every flop = Although having four pocket cards gives you a lot more flexibility how to play your hand, you must remember that every player has received four cards. Fold early if you have an unplayable hand.

Play Omaha

Be careful with your starting hands = Don’t overestimate the value of high pocket pairs. Omaha Poker is most often won with straights, flushes and full houses. The best starting hands are the ones with suited and connected cards.

Evaluate the flop = Remember that each of your opponents has four cards to work with, not two. If the flop turns up three semi-connected cards, such as 7-T-J, you need to consider that one of your opponents may be holding 8-9. If a pair flops, there is a threat that someone could make a full house.

If you don’t have a winner, fold = If you haven’t connected with your cards on the flop, it’s probably best to fold. It’s most likely that someone did hit their hand and there’s no reason for you to stay around if you don’t have a certain winner.
